You are both veterans at The Washington Post. How does the new gig compare to your old jobs?
Argetsinger: It's a harder job than any serious news beat I've ever had—and yet it's ridiculously fun. I sometimes sit at my desk laughing because I can't believe this is what I do for a living.
Roberts: Shhhh! Don't tell them that... It's very, very, very hard.

Is gathering gossip an art form or just plain, old-fashioned reporting?
Roberts: It's a God-given talent.

Do you have a code of principles to write by?
Argetsinger: A code? You know omerta, the code of silence? Basically the opposite of that.

How do you handle a co-authored column?
Argetsinger: You mean, besides the hair-pulling catfights and whining behind each other's back to editors? Pretty well, we think.
Roberts: We flip a coin, and whoever wins gets to watch The View and eat bonbons all day.

Both: We are happy to report that we have never, ever fought, not once in our happy and productive relationship of 14 weeks.

Please, tell us a juicy story.
Argetsinger: Like, the time that Roxanne...
Roberts: No, no—the time that Amy...

Which local celebrity generates the most ink? The best ink?
Argetsinger: Jenna and Barbara Bush, without a doubt. All they have to do is show up in public for us to write about them.
Roberts: There's nothing like a first twin dirty-dancing!

Name your favorite hotspot for eavesdropping.
Both: The ladies room, 1 a.m.

Who, exactly, are your reliable sources?
Argetsinger: Duh, we can't tell you that!
Roberts: Ask Judy Miller! Now, she'll tell...

Will Washington ever be sexy?
Argetsinger: Oh, Roxanne hates this question...
Roberts: If you think Washington's not sexy, you're just not flirting
with the right people.
